Indonesian delegation is highly prepared for COP30

The assessment that the Indonesian delegation is highly prepared for COP30 is based on several key pieces of concrete evidence and documented actions taken in the lead-up to the conference:

1. Advanced Policy and Documentation

  • Submission of Second NDC: Indonesia has already submitted its Second Nationally Determined Contribution (SNDC), which outlines its climate targets for the 2031-2035 period. This is crucial as it demonstrates continuous commitment and provides a clear roadmap for future domestic and international action.
  • Detailed Position Paper: The delegation has actively worked to develop a National Position Paper covering around 13 core negotiation agendas, ensuring they have unified, strategic stances on complex global climate issues.

2. Tangible Mitigation Results

  • FOLU Net Sink Progress: Indonesia is prepared to showcase its significant progress in the forestry and land use sector, particularly the implementation of the FOLU (Forestry and Other Land Use) Net Sink 2030 policy. This initiative aims for the sector to absorb more emissions than it releases.
  • Verifiable Emission Reductions: The country is ready to present verified data on its emission reduction performance, with goals like exhibiting its progress in reducing 60 million tons of CO2 equivalent (CO2e).

3. Operational Carbon Market Infrastructure

  • SRN-PPI and IDXCarbon: Indonesia has established and operationalized the National Registry System for Climate Change Control (SRN-PPI) as the single legal basis for tracking all carbon reduction and climate action activities. This system is integrated with the IDXCarbon (Indonesia Carbon Exchange), which demonstrates a transparent and measurable mechanism for carbon trading—a key area of focus in global climate finance negotiations (Article 6 of the Paris Agreement).

4. Strategic Delegation and Diplomatic Support

  • High-Level Representation: The Indonesian delegation is described as “strong,” including the participation of key ministers (Environment, Forestry, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries) and a special presidential envoy, underscoring the political importance placed on the conference.
  • International Alignment: Indonesia has expressed strong support for key initiatives from the host country, Brazil, such as the Tropical Forest Forever Facility, demonstrating active participation and alignment with fellow developing nations that are major custodians of the world’s forests.
