General IFL Criteria:

  1. Minimum area of 500 km².
  2. Not fragmented by permanent man-made infrastructure (e.g., major roads, canals, farms).
  3. Supports natural ecological processes—such as water cycles, wildlife migration, and natural regeneration.
  4. Primarily old-growth forest, though it may include other ecosystems like swamps or natural grasslands, as long as they are ecologically integrated.

Purpose of the IFL Concept:

  • To protect high biodiversity.
  • To provide carbon stock…

Does a concession with an area less than 50,000 ha qualify as having an IFL?

What I mean is, some identify an IFL within a concession area that is not connected to a larger landscape suspected of being an IFL.
