HCV areas are critical because they harbor essential features like rare species, crucial ecosystem services, or significant cultural sites, valued regionally or globally. Given that conservation value may remain even on land cleared recently, any entity involved in a zero-deforestation initiative must take clear responsibility to maintain and improve these values. To uphold this standard, we verify all assessments using only independent and credible HCV assessors.
